Things To See
Though the city of Vancouver is still quite young, there are many points of interest and attractions available here if you’re a visitor. A lot of historical buildings and city landmarks important for Vancouver are located in the downtown area. In the center of the city you will find the Convention Centre of Vancouver, Canada Place and the Marine Building which has an Art Deco style.
The Coal Harbour walkway, Stanley Park and Vancouver Aquarium are some of the attractions of Gastown and the Westside part of the city. You will also find there a steam clock and a number of buildings which were restored.
If you enjoy looking at modern architecture, you might want to check out the Sheraton Wall Center or the Shangri-La, which is the city’s tallest building right now. The Granville Island stores and markets which are full of activity are another landmark of the city.
People that enjoy learning about the history of a city might love visiting the British Columbia University Anthropology Museum, where there are thousands of objects to study. Besides the local history, you will also learn about other cultures from all over the world.
Art lovers should check out the Art Gallery of Vancouver, found in the downtown area, which has both international and local exhibits, plus a permanent collection with works by Emily Carr, a well known artist from British Columbia.
The biggest library of the city is the Public Library and its design is based on the Roman Coliseum.
If you go downtown you will also enjoy the Nelson Street’s Contemporary Art Gallery, which is quite small but it offers quality modern art.
If you enjoy the outdoors you will find plenty of gardens and parks to choose from and the best one is Stanley Park, which is found in the downtown area.
